| Tønder is a beautiful old borough with an exciting and deep historical past. There is an interesting museum, where there is both a history of civilization as well as an art section. In the water tower, which is connected to the museum, one can try out some of
H.J. Wegner's famous chairs. More over the city has many cosy shops and special shops where handicraft is sold.

The region offers a rich bird life. During spring and autumn one can admire "Sort sol" (black sun), where thousands of birds gather in a huge body and fly in impressive formations. Furthermore there are flocks of geese and a lot of other waders.
During summer one can go on a seal safari or try the "Mandø-bus" across the tidal flats to Mandø - the Isle of Mandø. South of Jutland has a very messy historical past and you can get a close look by visiting Dybbøl Banke or Dannevirke.

South of the border you can visit the small tidal islands called "hallinger, Hallig Hooge or Hallig Langeness. A shopping trip to Flensburg is also recommand-able, especially during winter where there is a nice Christmas market all of December, just as there is one in Tønder. | |
